Position a rack in the upper third of the oven. Preheat the oven to 425┬░F. Butter a 2-quart gratin dish.
Sprinkle the dish with:
2 tablespoons fresh breadcrumbs, toasted
Boil:
2 pounds broccoli, florets and stalks cut into pieces
Drain and return to the cooking pot. Gently fold in:
Sauce Mornay made with Cheddar cheese
Spread evenly in the baking dish and cover the top with:
2 tablespoons butter, softened, cut into small pieces
1/4 cup fresh breadcrumbs
Bake until bubbly and lightly browned on top, about 20 minutes.
